Your information.
Handled with care.
This policy explains what personal information Charley may collect, why it is used, when it may be shared and the choices available to you.
1. Who this policy covers
This policy applies to visitors to the Charley website and people who use or enquire about Charley delivery, logistics, driver or home and office storage services. “Charley”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the operator of the Charley platform. The full legal name and privacy contact of that operator must be provided in the app, booking documents or other official service channel before personal information is collected for a live commercial booking.
2. Information we may collect
- Account and contact details: name, email address, phone number, login and account-role information, and communications you send us.
- Delivery and logistics details: pickup and destination addresses, recipient details, delivery instructions, item descriptions, booking history, status updates and proof-of-delivery information where used.
- Location information: pickup/destination locations and, if a feature is enabled and permission is granted, driver or device location needed to coordinate or support a journey. Background location should only be processed for a clearly disclosed, necessary service purpose and in accordance with device permissions.
- Driver or partner verification: information supplied for onboarding or safety checks, which may include identity or licence details and verification images where the relevant process requires them.
- Storage information: inventories, item descriptions, condition photographs, collection/return details, access instructions and records needed to manage a confirmed storage booking.
- Technical and usage information: device, browser, diagnostic, security and interaction data that the deployed website or app actually collects. The specific analytics and logging tools must be confirmed before launch.
- Payment records: payment status, amount, transaction reference and limited payment-related details supplied by a payment provider. We should not collect or store full card credentials unless an authorised payment flow expressly requires it.
3. Why information is used
Depending on the service and the information involved, we may use personal information to:
- create and secure accounts, authenticate users and administer customer, driver or partner access;
- respond to enquiries, provide quotes, arrange collections, deliveries and storage, and communicate service updates;
- coordinate routes, confirm handovers, maintain item inventories and investigate complaints or missing/damaged items;
- verify drivers or partners where required for safety, fraud prevention or legal compliance;
- process payments, maintain appropriate records, prevent misuse and protect the platform;
- meet legal obligations, resolve disputes and improve reliability and accessibility.
We should only process information where we have an appropriate legal basis, such as taking steps requested before a contract, performing a contract, complying with law, pursuing legitimate interests that do not override your rights, or obtaining consent where consent is required.
4. Location and permissions
Some app features may need location access to suggest a pickup point, coordinate a delivery or support a driver’s assigned job. Your device settings control app permissions. If background location is used, the app should explain when it operates, why it is needed and how to disable it; location should not be treated as continuously available if permission is denied or the feature is not active. You can manage permissions in your device settings, although disabling a necessary permission may limit a related feature.
5. When information may be shared
Information may be shared only as reasonably necessary with:
- the sender, recipient, assigned driver or authorised service partner to complete a booking;
- storage facilities or handlers involved in a confirmed storage arrangement, including relevant inventory and access details;
- technology, hosting, communications, mapping, verification and payment providers that support the service;
- professional advisers, regulators, law enforcement or other parties where disclosure is legally required or necessary to protect people, rights or property;
- a successor or buyer in a business transaction, subject to appropriate safeguards and applicable law.
We do not describe sharing as unlimited permission to use your information for unrelated purposes. The live provider list, international transfers and safeguards must be checked against the systems actually connected to Charley before launch.
6. Storage, security and retention
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures intended to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or alteration. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. Access should be limited to people and providers who need the information for an authorised purpose.
We retain information for as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, including providing services, maintaining required business records, handling disputes, meeting legal obligations and enforcing agreements. Retention periods depend on the data type and applicable law. Data that is no longer needed should be securely deleted or de-identified, unless it must be retained for a lawful reason.
7. Your choices and rights
Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have rights to request access to your information, correct inaccurate information, request deletion, object to or restrict certain processing, withdraw consent where processing relies on consent, or complain to a relevant data-protection authority. Some records may need to be retained to comply with law or resolve a dispute.
You can review device permissions and keep account details accurate. For a privacy request, use the official contact channel in your app or booking confirmation. A monitored privacy contact and a clear process for handling requests must be published before live launch.
8. Children
Charley’s delivery and storage services are not designed for children to use independently. A parent, guardian or authorised adult should arrange services for a child where appropriate. We do not knowingly seek to collect children’s personal information beyond what is necessary for a lawful, properly authorised service.
9. Cookies and similar technologies
The website may use essential browser storage or similar technologies needed for security and basic operation. Non-essential analytics or advertising technologies should not be enabled without the disclosures and consent required by applicable law. The exact cookie and analytics behaviour must be verified against the deployed website before this statement is treated as final.
10. Third-party services and external links
The website or app may link to or rely on third-party services. Their own privacy notices apply to information they collect directly. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external websites; review their policies before sharing information with them.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the website, app, services or legal requirements change. We will update the date above when the policy changes. Where required, we will give additional notice or seek consent for a material change.
12. Contact and complaints
For questions about privacy or to make a request, use the official Charley contact channel supplied in your app or booking confirmation. The legal operator must publish a monitored privacy email or other reliable contact method and its full legal name before collecting information for live commercial services. You may also have the right to contact the data-protection authority responsible for your location.
